In France, the opposition Socialist Party chooses between two women to replace Francois Hollande as its next leader this Friday.
Former French presidential candidate Segolene Royal beat two other candidates in Thursday's election to head the Socialists but failed to secure a winning majority. She faces the mayor of Lille, Martine Aubry in Friday's run-off. If Royal wins, she will have a big head start on becoming the Socialist candidate for the 2012 presidential election.
