Former UN chief Kofi Annan, former US president Jimmy Carter and rights activist Graca Machel, the wife of former South African president Nelson Mandela, say they want to assess the extent of the humanitarian crisis in the country and provide assistance.
Mugabe has branded the trip a "partisan mission." Meanwhile, Zimbabwe's government mouthpiece newspaper, The Herald, says that the ruling party and the opposition plan to meet next week in South Africa to negotiate further the powers of the prime minister in a power-sharing government.
